چکیده

The term Marine-Lenhart syndrome describes the association between Graves’ disease and autonomously functioning thyroid nodules (AFTN), such as toxic adenoma or toxic multinodular goiter. The two diseases may coexist or may be present at different moments in the same patient. In the literature, there are many reports on the development of Graves’ disease after radioiodine treatment for AFTN, but very little information may be found on the occurrence of AFTN after radioiodine therapy for Graves’ disease. We describe here the case of a female patient with Graves’ disease who was successfully treated with radioiodine for Graves’ disease, returning to normal thyroid function. Three years later, biochemical analysis and ultrasound examination identified a thyroid nodule that progressively increased in size. The 99mTc-pertechnetate scintigraphy showed avid uptake in the right lobule, which corresponded to a nodular lesion consistent with AFTN. Arq Bras Endocrinol Metab. 2014;58(4):398-401

Coexistence of Graves' Disease and Toxic Adenoma: a Rare Presentation of Marine-lenhart Syndrome.

Both Graves' disease and Toxic Nodules cause thyrotoxicosis, albeit by different mechanisms. Their coexistence is called Marine-Lenhart syndrome, the prevalence of which has been reported 2.7-4.1%. In many cases with Marine Lenhart syndrome Graves' disease is accompanied by multiple hyperfunctioning nodules, although it is accompanied by a solitary hyperfunctioning nodule in rare cases. We here...

Marine-Lenhart syndrome with papillary thyroid carcinoma

Graves' disease with accompanying functioning nodules is known as Marine-Lenhart syndrome. Autonomously functioning thyroid nodules (AFTNs) also within Graves' thyroid tissue are almost always bening in nature. A 45-year-old man developed hyperthyroidism due to the coexistence of Graves' disease and AFTN. Total thyroidectomy was performed. The hyperfunctioning nodule with centrally hypoactive f...

Rare Presentation of Marine-Lenhart Syndrome

The combination of autoimmune Graves’ disease with a solitary hot thyroid nodule suppressing the remainder of the thyroid gland is rare. We report a case of Graves’ disease associated with a single hyperfunctioning nodule with suppression of the remaining gland. A 45 year old male patient with past medical history of autoimmune Graves’ disease with severe ophthalmopathy was referred to endocrin...

X-linked incontinentia pigmenti or Bloch-Sulzberger syndrome: a case report Incontinência pigmentar ligada ao X ou síndrome de Bloch-Sulzberger: relato de um caso

Incontinentia pigmenti is a rare X-linked genodermatosis that affects mainly female neonates. Skin manifestations are the most common and occur in four quite distinct phases. A female infant presented vesiculobullous lesions on trunk and limbs, and a verrucous lesion on the right palm. Biopsy revealed eosinophil exocytosis and pigment incontinence, confirming the clinical hypothesis. Although u...

A Case of Marine-Lenhart Syndrome with a Negative TSH Receptor Antibody Titer Successfully Treated with a Fixed, Low Dose of I131

We herein describe a case of Marine-Lenhart syndrome with a negative TSH receptor antibody titer. A 75-year-old female presented to our hospital with malaise, palpitations, and mild fine tremors. She did not have any signs suggestive of Graves' ophthalmopathy, including conjunctival injection, periorbital edema, or proptosis. Her laboratory data were negative for thyroid autoantibodies, includi...
